Eric de Deckere is sustainability manager within Cefic, focusing on the role the chemical sector in sustainable transition. He coordinates Network of Experts on ‘Corporate Footprinting, reporting & target-setting’ and ‘Circular Economy’. Eric is involved in SBTi’s Expert Advisory Group of the chemical sector guidance. Before Eric was CSR Manager within the Antwerp Port Authority, coordinating the sustainability reporting process for the port of Antwerp.
Eric was one of the driving forces of the World Ports Sustainability Program of the IAPH and was involved in the Environmental Committee of PIANC and in Navigating a Changing Climate. In 2018 Eric was awarded as CSR-
professional of the year in the category large companies in Belgium.
He was Professor at the Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development of the University of Antwerp focusing on sustainable sediment Management and integrated water management. Eric de Deckere obtained a master’s degree in environmental science at Wageningen University and a PhD focusing on the impact of biota on sediment dynamics in the estuarine environment.
