María Alejandra is an international sustainable business lawyer with studies in Colombia and Italy.
Passionate about driving positive change, she has expertise in ESG, CSR, policy, and sustainable
finance, leveraging her experience to bridge the gap between business, social, and climate impact. She
has worked in multicultural environments across NGOs, law firms, and the financial sector.
Currently, María Alejandra is the EU Lead Manager of the Agri-Food Transitions Programme at Climate
Bonds Initiative. In this role, she oversees this project in the region, which is designed to define science-
based sustainability criteria to transition the agri-food system to align with net-zero and catalyze the
market by demonstrating how investors can apply this ruleset to get capital flow in the right direction.
Her leadership extends to building consensus within the EU policy framework, managing stakeholder
engagement, project development and creating knowledge tools to accelerate the transition towards a
net-zero, resilient future for agriculture, addressing outcomes such as deforestation, just transitions,
biodiversity loss, land use, etc.
